Fourty-eight Slovak Spotted dairy cows were used in a study to evaluate the influence of performance and pre- and post-calving period on blood glucose concentration. High producing dairy cows had statistically high-significantly higher glucose level in blood serum compared to low-producing ones. When evaluating the influence of the phase of reproduction cycle on the blood serum glucose content, a decrease in glucose concentration in high-producing as well as low-producing dairy cows in post-calving period were recorded. Statistically significant tendencies to hypoglycemia in the first lactation phase in high-producing dairy cows were observed.
