Effect of foliar application of urea and defloration treatment to citrus tree prior to flowering upon stabilization of fruiting

A combination test of defloration treatment and the foliar application of a urea solution was conducted on an excessive blossom bearing tree of an early-ripening satsuma mandarin to study the increase in the number of new leaves and the enhancement in fruit quality this year and the security of flower-bearing in the next year. When a 0.7% urea solution was applied to the early-ripening satsuma mandarin prior to flowering two times, the number of spring leaves increased. When defloration treatment was performed, the generation of May buds gained in number and the flower (fruit) bearing in the next year was well. This effect was high in group defloration as compared with custom defloration. The foliar application of urea exerted effect upon the increase in the sugar level of harvested fruits or the enhancement in a fruit diameter index. In addition, when the foliar application of urea was performed to a navel orange and Yuzu prior to a flowering stage, the effect on the initial plumpness or the increase in the number of spring leaves was confirmed by performing foliar application 2-3 times
