This project aims to demonstrate the value of simple seed plot techniques and virus clean-up in producing good quality seed of an old established cultivar. The first cycle of positive selection on cultivar Conchita was completed and virus clean-up is on-going for selected hills. A demonstration plot established to compare the seeds obtained from positive selection gave a higher survival in the field, yield per hill, and percentage of larger tubers compared to random samples from the field. However, no significant differences were detected due to prolonged drought during the crop establishment period.
