Response of corn to nitrogen fertilization
1989
Luzano, M.Q. | Achas, W.C. (Philippines. Dept. of Agriculture, Bohol)
The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the different levels of nitrogen on the yield of corn under alkaline soil in Dao, Bohol [Philippines]. Results showed that application of 30 kg/ha in Dao soil increased the yield by 12.8% while 120 kg and 150 and 250 kg N/ha produced 34% yield increase. A similar study was conducted at DA [Department of Agriculture]-Ilagan experiment station and Solana, Cagayan [Philippines] to determine the response of corn to nitrogen fertilizer application under zero tillage condition. In Ilagan, 2 fertilizer rates namely: 90-30-30 NPK and 120-30-30 NPK produced the highest yields of 3.49 and 3.33 t/ha, respectively. Control gave 0.975 t/ha. In Solana, fertilizer treatments of 120-28-28 NPK and 80-28-28 NPK produced the highest mean yields of 4.6 and 4.37 t/ha while the control (no fertilizer applied) gave 1.07 t/ha. Response curves obtained from the two sites showed that beyond 80 kg N/ha, no further significant increase in corn yield would be expected.
