A three-year study on farm and fertilizer experiment was conducted to determine the optimum lime and fertilizer rates for corn production on acidic Bukidnon [Philippines] soils and to demonstrate to the farmer in his own field that improved practices could increase his yield and net income. Lime and nutrient levels (N and P) were arranged following a split-plot in RCB [randomized complete block] design during the 1987-1988 implementation on two location sites. Results were evaluated and the fertilizer rates which were observed to give high yield and net income were selected for the next year's implementation. Results were again evaluated and the treatment which gave the highest yield and net return was used in the verification phase in comparison with the farmer's traditional practice. Results of the study indicated that lime and fertilizer application on acidic soils significantly increased the grain yield of corn. Application of 60-30-0 kg N P2O2-K2O/ha with three tons of lime per hectare was found to be the optimum fertilizer rate for corn production on acidic Bukidnon soils.
