Biological value of protein and the contents of fibre and starch in spring barley grain as affected by nitrogen fertilization

Barley (cv. Diva) was fertilized with N at rates of 30 to 120 kg/ha and its grain analysed. Rising N rates resulted in the increase in total N and protein content in the barley grain. High N doses over 80 kg/ha brought about a reduction in the content of the following amino acids: methionine, lysine, valine, leucine and isoleucine. The increased N fertilization did not substantially affect the contents of crude fibre, cellulose and starch in spring barley grain
