The purpose of this audiovisual training module is to present background information on barley hybridization and briefly outlines the crossing technique. It enables the audience to explain hybridization and lists three main purposes of hybridization in crop improvement, namely, combine desirable traits, enhance genetic variability, and exploit hybrid vigor; to describe the structure of a barley flower including the spike, spikelet, and floret; to discuss selection and raising of parents for making crosses; to list and describe the two main activities in making crosses for barley hybridization that is emasculation and pollination
