Effect of neuro-myotropic agents on mating behaviour and sperm cell output of the boar

Two mature German Land Race boars with normal sexual behaviour were trained to accept a dummy and manually ejaculated every other day over a period of two months. A total of 30 ejaculates were collected from each of the boar throughout the experimental period of 60 days. On the semen collection 1-8 and 16-23 during the experimental period were not treated serve as control, while both boars were treated on the semen collection 9-15 with beta-blocker (Carazolol) 10 ug./kd. BW. intramuscularly 30 minutes prior to semen collection and on the semen collection 24-30 with alphamimetic agent (Midodrin) 0.8 mg./kgBW. intravenous 15 minutes prior to semen collection. For monitoring the efficiency of neuromyotropic agents on the organism of the boars, pulse rate during copulatory act, the relevant andrological parameters such as mating behaviour, biological and biochemical aspect of the semen were determined respectively. The results are summerized as follows. 1) An application both of Carazolol and Midodrin could be reduced significant of the maximal pulse rate, but could not be effected on the mating behaviour and performance of copulatory act of the boars. 2) Sperm cell motility, pathological sperm cell and ejaculation volume were unaltered, but the sperm cell concentration and total sperm cell output were increased significant in both of the boars. 3) Glycerylphosphorylcholine content in seminal plasma was increased under the alphamimetic (Midodrin) application significant in both boars
