Four swamp buffaloes, 2 cows and 2 steers were submitted to the investigation for serum and uterine tissue levels of oxytetracycline (OTC) following a single intramuscular injection of 20 mg Terramycin/LA per kg bodyweight. By using the microbiological agar diffusion method, 2 hours after treatment, oxytetracycline levels were high at around 1.5 mcg./ml. and reached a peak of 1.75 mcg./ml. at 8 hours. Subsequently, they gradually decreased to a detectable level at hours, and beyond this were found only at trace levels. Uterine tissues contained concentration of oxytetracycline at around 12 hours post injection and at 37 hours at trace levels. Oxytetracycline is sustained in the serum for up to 72 hours following injection of Terramycin/LA.
