Experimentation on cockle seedling propagation has been carried out since 1984. The cockle species imported from Malaysia being farmed at Sawee Bay, Chumphon Province and local species from Phetchaburi Province were used as broodstock. Temperature shock and hydrogen peroxide solution application techniques were applied to induce spawning monthly. In July 1984, the imported species successfully spawned but failed to develop until settle stage. Later in March 1985, the local species spawned and developed to settle stage within 19 days with the average size over 190 microns. The average growth rate of larvae range between 2.5-6.5 microns per day. During early larval stage, Isochrysis galfana was used as feed. Determination of setting stage by the development of ciliated foot and the appearance of saw-teeth-like at the margin of the shell.
