There were 28-36 % and 28-30 % oil content, 3-5 % saturated fatty acid and 95-97 % (47-49 % erucic acid) and 96-98 % (53-55 % erucic acid) in rape seed and crambe seed, respectively. In linseed there was an oil content of 30-40 %, 9-12 % saturated fatty acid, 87-91 % unsaturated fatty acid with conjugated diene and conjugated triene 5.85 % and 14.71 %, respectively. Other properties were as followed:specific gravity 0.926 at 25 deg. celsius/ 25 deg. celsius, refractive index 1.478-1.480 at 25 deg. celsius/ 25 deg. celsius, acid value 3.5, iodine value (wijs) 170, sponification value 188-190 % and unsaponifiable matter 1.25 %. The colour (Lovibond) is 11.4 Y:8.4 R (measured from crude oil). After alkslinization and bleaching process, the acid value was 0.5 and colour of 12.1 Y:1.2 R. The viscosities of varnish from linseed mixed with 30 % phenolic resin and linseed mixed with 30 % petroleum resin were 383 and 183 poise, respectively. The varnishes made from the mentioned mixture could be used in printing, but the varnish made from resin phenolic was more viscous than that made from resin petroleum. When the ink solvent was adjusted the two resins could be made into varnishes for sheet printing as well.
