Combining ability for number of kernels per spike in wheat

The way of inheritance for the number of kernels per spike in wheat was studied in this paper. Six different genotypes of common wheat were evaluated in diallel crosses excluding reciprocals, and F1 generations were obtained. The results revealed additive and non-additive gene action in the inheritance of kernel number per spike. The best general combiner for the examined trait was Erect RAF E-2, as well as NS 12-77, which proved to be a good and stable general combiner.
