This paper presents in brief the problem areas identified through bench- mark survey, highlights research accomplishment ar BLRI FSR sites and focus future research thrust. Scarcity of green fodder during June-November with resulting deterioration of milk production, prevalence of parasitic and viral diseases at different magnitude, low reproductive performance etc. emerged from the survey. Higher intake of dry matter (DM) at Bathan during November- February was due to free access to abundant seasonal grazing pasture, which corresponds to milk production of 8-12 litres/cow/day and a better body weight gain. A functional relationship between feed availability, DM intake and body weight gain was observed. Incidence of FMD (60% during February - May), Humpsore (throughout the year) were severe. Adaptability and production performance of improved breeds of chicken under rural condition exhibited encouraging results.
