Ahmad, S. | Ahmed, Q.A. (Bangladesh Jute Research Inst., Dhaka (Bangladesh))
The amount of cuttings and lignin contents of the parents CVL-1 and Fanduk (creamy white fibre), CBS (snow white fibre), their F1 and F2s have been determined. The cuttings were maximum in CVL-1 (20-29%) and minimum in CBS (5.45%). Among the F1s, the maximum amount of cuttings (19.05%) was observed in CBS X CVL-1. Lignin content was low (9.99%) in CBS and high (13.84%) in CVL-1. In the F1s low lignin content was observed in CBS X CVL-1 (13.18%). An increasing trend of lignin distribution from top to bottom was observed. The difference is higher (1.40) in CVL-1 and lower (0.07) in CBS. Lignin content and amount of cuttings were always found minimum in the F2s associated with snow white fibre.
