Problems and prospects of livestock in Bangladesh
1991
Ahmed, Nazir
This socio-economic survey inferred that smaller land owner keep more than a proportional share of livestock in relation to areas owned, while opposite is the case with larger land owners. The landless keep a considerable number of livestock per household. They utilize their homestead plots and the common village grounds for feeding these animals. This seems to reflect the old observation that small owners try to utilize their surplus labour by keeping additional livestock. With the above background, the constraints that affect the livestock production and development and also the prospect of the industry in Bangladesh are discussed.
