An elicitor against cucumber anthracnose was isolated from mycelial walls of induction fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides by sonification and high temperature treatment. This elicitor induced cucumber resistance against anthracnose as did living induction fungi with effects 57.4%-67.9% vs. 65.2%-74.7%. After the application of the elicitor, the activities of peroxidase (POD), polyphenoloxidase and phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) in cucumber were increased significantly (by 69.0% for POD, 103.1% for polyphenoloxidase and 145.6% for PAL), and there were more and darker bands of peroxidase isozymes than the control. The contents of phenols and lignin in cucumber were also increased significantly (by 14.9% and 51.2%, respectively). The results indicate that the induction of resistance involves the change(s) in metabolism related resistance
