The composition of virulence genes in powdery mildew populations from wheat and barley in the GDR from 1978 to 1988 using race analyses
1991
Waechter, V. | Fritsche, H.
The composition of virulence genes in powdery mildew populations from 1978 to 1988 was determined by race analyses. In wheat mildew virulence genes corresponding to all included resistance genes were found. The number of mildew races detected increased during the period, while the average number of virulence genes per race decreased. In barley mildew virulence genes corresponding to all included resistance genes were found, except Mlo virulence. The number of races detected increased in the last years, however, the average number of virulence genes per race was nearly constant. The virulence patterns may be related to the cultivation of wheat with field resistance and of spring barley variety mixtures
