At the Estonian Research Institute of Animal Breeding and Veterinary Science the main trends of parasitological investigation have been as follows: ascertaining the parasitological situation of farm animals depending on changes in keeping technologies and other ecological conditions, establishing the epizootological specific features of the economically more important parasitoses, determining the effectiveness of the newest preparations in our conditions and their switching into the prevention systems appropriate to the conditions of the Estonian SSR. On the basis of study results the prevention systems of the more important parasitoses in our conditions (ascariasis, metastrongylosis, oesophagostomiasis, strongyloidosis, sarcoptosis in pigs; dictyocauliasis, strongilatoses of gastrointestinal tract, strongyloidosis, eimeriosis in cattle; strongylatoses of gastrointestinal tract, moniesiosis, protostrongyloses, muelleriosis, dictyocauliasis and melophagosis in sheep) have been steadily improved and introduced in our republic. At present the Estonian SSR is one of the best republics in the USSR as for its parasitological situation, but improvement of the parasitoses prevention has great importance for the further raising of the productivity of farm animals
