The effect of rootstock on the scions was studied in a vineyard planted in the late seventies. 36 rootstock varieties were included in the experiment. Changes in 28 ash components were traced in the musts of the Lindenblattriger vine variety. Considerable differences were observed between the rootstocks as regards the quantity of various nutrients taken up and in their accumulation in the generative organs of the scion. The graft combination is a decisive factor in the composition of the must (e.g. the Se, Fe and Ti contents of the must were greatest on Riparia Martin, the Hg content on Adamovics, the Ba content on Riparia portalis, the Cu on Berl. x Rip. T.G. 50-3 and the K content on Solonis x Rip. 1615 rootstocks) and thus in the quality of the wine
