[Description of "Kumpai" grass in Kumpe and Jambi area (Sumatra, Indonesia)]

Field plots were established in Kecamatan Muara Kumpe and Kotamadya Jambi for studying growth of kumpai grass. The experiment was commenced in May and finished in September 1988. The experiment consisted of 3 phases and length of each phase was 30 days. Plot size was 1 m by 1 m. Grass was cut at the first day of experiment to ensure uniform height on each plot. Result of experiment showed that increment of height was 21.0 cm for each 30-day period, length of leaf blade was 17.3 cm, width of leaf blade was 1.2 cm, number of tiller was 525.5 and production of fresh weight was 75.6 ton/ha/year
