Correlation and path coefficient analysis of seven quantitative characters in soybean using multiple regression program

Correlation and path coefficient analysis were made for seven quantitative characters in 34 Orba soybean progenies. The yield was positively and significantly correlated to number of filled pod/plant, number of productive branch and plant height. Even so the multiple regression analysis indicated number of filled pod/plant, 100-seed weight and plant height were the three characters contributing to yield. Further analysis using path coefficient analysis revealed only two out of three characters that is important to be considered in soybean selection for seed production i.e. plant height and number of filled pod/plant. Besides of that it was found also that calculation of path coefficients by using standardized multiple regression program was convenient
