A survey on population density of tick, Haemaphysalis longicornis found in cattle grazed on pastures at different sites

Ticks, Haemaphysalis longicornis on heifers grazed on pastures located in different altitudes (Tottori, Hyoen and Kawaidani) were surveyed from August to November. The total number of ticks on heifers on pasture at Tottori with the lowest altitude was the greatest among locations examined and the least at Kawaidani of which altitude was the highest among locations. The ticks found mainly consisted of larva during grazing period and its peak density appeared in September. The results of distribution of ticks on body surface showed that ticks were found on the neck with higher percentage, irrespective of the location of the pasture. The tail had a least distribution of ticks
