Embryonic development of Truljalia hibinonis Matsumura (Orthoptera: Gryllidae), 1: Stages of embryonic development

Embryonic development was observed in fixed and living eggs of Truljalia hibinonis Matsumura during hibernation. Embryonic development can be divided into ten main stages. In early December, the blastoderm is formed at the posterior pole,and afterwards moves to the ventral side, where it changes to a dumb-bell shape from pyriform and the blastoderm elongates. In late March, the embryo sinks into the yolk, and differentiation of appendages take place. In the middle of May, embryo turned towards the dorsal surface of egg. In early June, embryonic development is completed. Egg size changes in connection with the process of embryonic development. Whereas egg length has been about 4mm during development, egg width starts increasing suddenly from 0.6mm in February to be 0.8mm in early June. The term from October to February corresponds to Stage I-III, in which the appendage primordium appears in embryo. After March it corresponds to Stage IV-X, from katatrepsis to completion of embryonic development
