Estimation methods of yield of citrus fruit by sap analysis or computer image processing of tree crown

The purpose of this experiment is to provide a few methods in order to estimate the production of citrus fruit. 1) Analysis of sugars in sap of succulent shoots at April prior to flowering at the end of May clarified the composition of glucose and fructose. Moreover, the higher glucose content in sap correlated with the lesser number of flowers. Using the provided regression equation between glucose content and the numbers of flowers or the current yield per each tree, the estimated yield per tree was calculated from the glucose content in sap. The present estimation may be useful for the determination of the degree of fruit thinning of each tree. 2) The numbers of fruits per tree and the weight of a fruit which are compositional factors for yield had a specific modeling curve. The former showed a parabola with two parameters and the latter showed a logistic curve with three parameters. 3) The video pictures of tree crowns at full bloom and at coloring time of fruit prior to harvesting were photographed apart about ten meters from the tree tops. Selected pictures were processed by computer methods in image analysis. Monitoring values of flowers or fruits were highly correlated with the actual yield. Therefore, image date was useful for the determination of estimated yield of each tree with using the provided regression equation. 4) Instead of simple or multiple regression analysis among meteorological factors and yields of each year, the present sampling analysis or computer techniques in image processing were very useful for a prediction of production of citrus fruit
