[Application of local strain Salmonella enteritidis-7/30 against the rodent Microtus brandti]
1993
Enkhbold, N. (Research Institute of Plant Protection, Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia))
Out of 67 species of rodents identified in Mongolia, Microtus brandi is the most widely distributed. This species, which is found over 40 million ha, is destructive of most cereal crops. Depending on weight it can eat 10-30 g of grain a day. Various pest control methods are described including tests of a local strain 7/30 which has toxigen safe properties for livestock. The local strains cultivated in clean grain of industrial medium are described. Inoculation of fermentor is made, using a fairly dense, rapidly growing culture. The fermentation process must be carefully controlled. Best results are obtained in applications before the main growing season
