The microbial flora of cultured mudfish, Clarias anguillaris (L) at the early stages of their development was investigated to determine whether low survival rate during this period is correlated with bacteria associated with the fish starter diets of mixed culture of zooplankton and nauplii of the brine shrimp, artemia salina. The flora of the culture water was also analysed. Results indicated early establishment of bacterial flora in the fish digestive tract. The diets and the culture water appeared to be origin of bacterial flora of the fish intestinal tract
