The bacterial flora from fish-rearing ponds were analysed by cultural method during a 128 day experimental period. The total heterotrophic mesophilic and coliform bacteria detected in the culture water increased substantially by 2 to 3 log value within a period of 68 days after high fry production by stocked tilapia breeders in the ponds. Gut analysis for bacterial load showed lower counts of each bacterial group than their respective numbers in the water and fish skin samples. Pseudomonas spp predominated in the pond water, fish skin and feed. Aeromonas predominated in the fish gut
