A checklist of Philippine mites and ticks associated with wild and domestic vertebrates is the most species (98), followed by the Actinedida (77), Gamasida (61) and Ixodida (31). The best known species are the Trombiculidae (chiggers) with 43, Ixodidae (hard ticks) with 29, and Sarcoptidae (skin parasites) with 29 species, while the feather mites are presented by 51 species in 11 families. Birds, rodents and bats are the most frequent hosts, with 100, 64, and 58 recorded species of associated acarines, respectively. Among the major islands, Luzon is the best explored with 100 species, followed by Mindanao (56), Negros (51), the Palawan group (44), and Leyte (44)
