Photoinhibition of photosynthesis by strong irradiation

Photoinhibition of photosynthesis in tomato leaves by strong irradiation at normal, decreased and increased CO2 concentrations was determined. It was found that the exposure of tomato leaves to high quantum flux density of 1500 microE m exp (-2) s exp (-1) PAR for three hours under a normal concentration 330 cu.cm CO2/ cu.m causes a 17 percent photoinhibition of photosynthesis. With the decreased CO2 concentration to 100 cu.cm CO2/ cu.m photosynthetic pohotoihibition increased to 47 percent. At 1200 cu.cm CO2/ cu.m inhibition of photosynthesis attains 38 percent with the simultaneous almost triple starch content growth in tomato leaves in comparison to standard conditions
