Content of perloline in some species and cultivars of grasses
1992
Burczyk, J. | Smietana, B. (Slaska Akademia Medyczna, Katowice (Poland). Zaklad Farmakognozji)
Various grasses belonging to the genera Festuca and Lolium proposed for agricultural praxis in Poland show significant differences in the content of the alkaloid perloline. This alkaloid causes low palatability and intake as well as poor performance of animals. The lowest content 125 microgram g exp (-1) d.m. was found in Lolium perenne, cultivar Argone, the highest in Festuca pratensis, cultivar Westa (9700 microgram g exp (-1) d.m.) of perloline. All cultivars beloging to Festuca showed higher content of alkaloid than Lolium. Fertilization did not cause clear differences in content of perloline
