On-farm research on groundnut, pigeonpea, chickpea, and transfer of technology to semi-arid tropics farmers in India: project completion report, 1989-91
1993
LEGOFTEN (Legumes on-farm Testing and Nursery) of ICRISAT initiated a project in 1987, to study the production constraints of chickpea, pigeonpea and groundnut in India and to formulate improved technology for the crops. The trials involved four treatments namely 1) improved cultural package + improved variety; 2) improved cultural package + local variety; 3) local cultural package + improved variety; and 4) local cultural package + local variety, each grown on 0.2 ha. For improved land preparation and other field operations, various implements were tested and fabricated by ICRISAT and also by innovative farmers. A large number of public information programmes such as farmers' days and gatherings, articles in newspapers and popular magazines, training programs at different places, talks on radio and television, screening of video films on technology etc., were organized. This report documents the results of various trials and demonstrations conducted under the project
