Changes in biomass and the comparison of root system at spruce natural seeding on permanent sample plots in air polluted regions of the 5th and 6th altitudinal vegetation zone in the depencence on humus conditions and natural seeding on internal margin and in the closed part of the stand were studied. 300 and 100 pieces of 1 and 5 year old spruce sample trees in the distance of 5 to 40 m from the stand fence were analyzed and following results were found: changes were directly dependent in 1 year old spruce seedlings as to relation to the thickness of humus layers: the lenght of above-ground part depended on the thickness of mull horizon (Oh), the length of underground part on the thickness of litterfall layer (Ol). Indirect dependency was found between the number of shortened roots and the thickness of litterfall layer (Ol). With 5 year old natural seedings, an indirect dependency of the main root length and number of the roots on the distance from the stand fence is statistically significant. After the determination of active and exchangeable reaction of humus layers the value of pH-H20 ranged from 3.67 to 4.78, and pH-KCl from 2.70 to 3.79. The soil was more acid closer to the stand fence (margin) than farer from it.
