Superovulation reaction and laparoscopic recovery of oocytes in heifers treated by PMSG and FSH

In 2 groups of heifers (PMSG-treated and FSH-treated) 65 hours after the application of the 2nd dose of cloprostenol, the number of total clear and opaque (atretic) follicles and the recovery of oocytes after the aspiration of folicular content were determined using laparoscopy. The number of follicles was not significantly affected by the treatment. The relative recovery of oocytes from all follicles was significantly higher in the FSH group (67.2 percent) when compared to the PMSG group (56.1 percent). The number of oocytes per one heifer was higher in the FSH group (7.80 vs. 6.33). Other indices were not significantly different. The higher gain of preovulatory oocytes from non-atretic follicles may be achieved after the application of the FSH.
