Phenotypic correlations among traits of swamp buffaloes

Data of 179 performance tested swamp buffaloes, 90 males and 89 females, were collected during 1981-1986 from Lumphyaklang Livestock Station, DLD. The studied traits were birth weight; weaning weight; pre-weaning gain; 2-year-weight; post-weaning gain; height, girth and length at 2 years of age. The phenotypic correlations among these traits were estimated. As being regardless of sex, the majority of correlations among traits were significantly positive, except those between post-weaning gain and weaning weight and between pre-and post-weaning weight were significantly negative. With regard to sex, the correlations among traits varied in each sex, but most values were positive. The pre-weaning gain and the weaning weight had positive correlation (r=+.951) at highly significant level. Similarly, the post-weaning gain positively correlated (P0.05) to the 2-year-weight (r
