Increment of lysine content in yeast AM-CLGC 5

Present problems in agriculture, industry, economy and environment have forced for researches in making use of agricultural and industrial wastes for example as animal feed, compost and biogas. For animal feed, fungi is used to degrade starch and cellulose and yeast is used for increasing protein content. Almost all agricultural wastes or plants have low lysine content. So if lysine-rich yeast is used, the quality of animal feed will be increased. So in this experiment the increment of lysine content in yeast AM-CLGE 5 by using NTG and UV was studied. Intracellular lysine content of the yeast could be increased from 17.67 mg/g dry cell to 24.16 mg/g dry cell. After repeated mutation the intracellular lysine content increased to 29.94 mg/g dry cell or 1.7 time. The intracellular lysine content reached the highest value within 60-72 hours then decreased. Addition of 1 % polypeptone or 0.8-1 % yeast extract could increase the intracellular lysine content to 78 and 50-52 mg/g dry cell respectively.
