Anthelmintic activity of single doses of thiophanate at the rates of 70, 100 and 200 milligrams per kilogram of body weight was determined by the Field Trial against nematodes in 40 pigs. Thiophanate at a dose rate of 70, 100, 200 milligrams per kilogram was highly effective ( 90.2 to 98.4, 91.4 to 100 and 94.3 to 100 % respectively ) in reducing Ascaris suum, Strongyloides ransomi eggs from the first week to the twelth week posttreatment. The drug was 100 % effective in reducing Oesophagostomum spp. and Trichuris suis eggs throughout the twelve experimental weeks. Thiophanate at a dose rate of 70 milligrams per kilogram had no effect on fertility, embryoes or foetuses. Thiophanate was well tolerated by pigs when administered as a single dose up to 3000 milligrams per kilogram.
