Cope with aflatoxin in corn: The alternative measure

The performance of six fungistatic compounds was evaluated for A.flavus control on Suwan 1 grain under the conditions of high moisture and dry grain and on Super sweet corn grain. Na-acetate, Na-diacetate(Vita-crop) compounds were not effective and also created dark color on the seed coat. Propionic acid was the best among all the chemicals tested with respect to fungistatic action, residual effect and easiness in water dissolutions, followed by Na bisulfite. However, practically none of these compounds had any promising feature to be recommended for farmers in dressing their grain. The main reason is the high costs of chemicals, and Vita-crop is not yet available in the market.
