Effects of film-wrapping and temperature on the quality and storage life of Citrus sinensis L. var 'Jaffa'
1992
Mootoo, A.
The effectiveness of individual film-wrapping in polyethylene on quality characteristics and storage life extension of 'Jaffa' oranges held under two temperature regimes was investigated. Film wrapping significantly retarded the commercial deterioration and fresh weight loss of fruits held at 15 deg C and under ambient conditions. The storage life and marketability of fruits were also significantly improved by film-wrapping. Juice quality was not adversely affected by film-wrapping. Despite the improvement in the commercial quality, marketability and storage life of film-warapped versus unwrapped fruits, the data indicated that storage temperature is of greater importance in the keeping quality of 'Jaffa' oranges than film-wrapping in polyethylene.
