Conceptualizing the research-extension linkage
1992
Barker, St.C.C.
Outlines the many stages of metamorphosis through which agricultural extension in the Caribbean have gone. Eventually extension came to be referred to as a link between researcher and farmer or a bridge or a sandwich between researcher and farmer. It was therefore the responsibility of extension to take information from researcher to farmer and to take farmers' problems to the researcher. This traditional linkage emphasized farmer-extension-research in a triad. It is suggested that policy-makers, researchers, extensionists and farmers actively-seek out mechanisms to integrate the support systems into the farm production and marketing relationships.
