Preliminary study on insect pests of tea

In surveys conducted from January 1987 to May 1988, 25 kinds of insects were found with 14 species have already been known such as Coccus sp. (Coccidae), Empoasca anukii Matsuda (Cicadellidae), Scirtothrips sp. (Thripidae), Petillia calear (Corixidae), Poecilocoris latus (Scutelleridae), Mictis tenebrosa F. (Coreidae), Alcides nr. scenicus Faust (Curculionidae), Astycus sp. (Curculionidae), Hypomoces squamosus F. (Curculionidae), Adoretus sp. Zeurera coffeae Nietner (Cossidae), Homona coffearia Nietner (Tortricidae), Idonauton apicalis Walker (Limacodidae), and Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Tarsonemidae). The rest of 11 kinds have not been identified as yet. Black Aphis (Aphididae), Mealy Bug (Coccidae), Bark-eating Borer (pyralididae), Looper Caterpillar (Geometridae), Slug Caterpillar (Limacodidae), Bag Worm 4 species (Psychidae), Red Spider (Tetranychidae) and Termite (Termitidae). Some kinds of sucking insects and stem borers may cause serious damage to tea. Attention is, therefore, paid on E. onukii (Homoptera: Cicadellidae) that can be found in a considerable number at Amphoe Fang, Chiengmai province.
