Adjustment factors for weaning mass of Afrikaner cattle
1992
Beffa, M.L. (Ministry of Lands, Agriculture and Water Development, Harare (Zimbabwe). Dept. of Research and Specialist Services)
Adjustment factors for weaning mass were estimated in a grade herd of Afrikaner cattle maintained at Matopos Research Station. Growth from birth to weaning was found to be linear. Adjusting for age at weaning by either simple ratio or by regression coefficient were similar, although, calves born early (relative to the onset of rains) were lower than those of calves born after the onset of the rains. Males were 8 per cent heavier than females and a multiplicative adjustment factor was indicated. Either multiplicative or additive age of dam and previous lactation status adjustment factors were considered appropriate
