The paper analyses the effects of inbreeding on reproductive and growth performance. A total of eight sires were used; physically unsound sires were replaced by their sons. Little artificial selection was practiced, although physically unsound animals were culled. Inbreeding was analzed as a classified effect, where the performance of inbred dams and calves were compared with that of their outbred contemporaries. Individuals with less than 7 per cent inbreeding were considered outbred. The detrimental effects of inbreeding of dam and of calf appeared to compound for ADG, while compensatory effects due to inbreeding of dam were indicated for PMG. Carcass weight, rib-eye area and subcutaneous fat cover were depressed by inbreeding of individual and were greatest for rib-eye area
