Fibroin gene expression in the posterior silk gland of three silkworm races, Ziangsu-J (bivoltine), Nistari and BSRI-C (multivoltine) were studied in different developmental stages of Bombyx mori L. Results revealed that amino acid contents of posterior silk gland varied differently among the races and different developmental stages. Maximum amount of amino acids were found in different developmental stages of Ziangsu-J and lower in Nistari. Higher amount of alanine (35.10%), arginine (0.57%), glutamic acid (0.96%), glycine (45.26%) isoleucine (0.39%), leucine (0.24%), methionine (0.13%), serine (14.0%), tryptophan (0.22%), tyrosine (3.84%) and valine (2.44%) were obtained in Ziangsu-J on 6th day of 5th instar. On the other hand higher aspartic acid (1.32%), proline (0.28%) and lysine (0.24%) were obtained in BSRI-C on the 6th day of 5th instar. This may be due to regulation of fibroin mRNA in different developmental stages which is controlled by bindings of mRNA polymerase to the promoter and initiating of fibroin genes.
