An experiment was conducted during the winter period of 1987-88 with three different sizes of cloves of garlic to evaluate the effect of cloves size on the dry matter production and its partitioning at various stages of growth. The large size cloves produced higher dry matter of root, leaf sheath, leaf and bulb followed by medium and small cloves. The large size cloves produced higher bulb diameter, bulbing ratio and harvest indices at various stages of growth than those of medium and small cloves. The bulbs originated from large cloves were proved to be best and the small size ones are inferior as propagating materials for garlic production.
