Lember, A.
The present paper gives the results of a trial carried out in Sootaga Pig Farm. The aim of the trial was to study the influence of different protein content of the ration of pregnant sows on their reproductive performance. Sows in the first group consumed only barley meal during pregnancy. To the diet of sows in the second and third group 150, resp. 300 g of fish meal was added. Backfat depth was increased on average 6.4, 4.9 and 10.8 mm resp. During the 56 day lactation period the live weight of sows decreased 29.8, 38.9 and 47.5 kg, backfat depth decreased 9.2, 10.5 and 16.0 mm resp. A positive live weight balance during the whole reproductive cycle was found only in the sows of the first group. Balance of backfat depth was negative in all groups. The number of piglets born, litter weight, number of pigs weaned and litter weaning weight did not statistically differ (P0.05) by groups
