Laas, E. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia). Inst. of Forestry)
The study deals with the problems of growth of cultures of Scots pine of different density in South-East Estonia. Site preparation of different site types, influences of conditions of clear-cutting area on initial density, amount of seed, success of sowing and amount of plants in sowing spots were investigated during the study. Natural regeneration of Scots pine and birch is studied in different site types incl. influence of distance from old stand to the amount of regeneration. The planted cultures of age 10 and sowing cultures of age 40 were studied in detail to explain the influence of initial density on their growth and diameter of branches. The relation of initial density to ecological-geographical conditions is also treated. Finally, on the basis of the present study the types of cultures of Scots pine for clear-cutting areas on sandy soils of South-Estonia, were found out.
