The purpose of this study is to present the results on the reform of farming system with the introduction of farming centers and the role of an agricultural cooperative which was involved in the reform. Village of Miyada and town of Iijima both belong to the Inan Agricultural Cooperative in Nagano Prefecture. Miyada has been undertaking the reform of its farming system, which is at present called "Miyada Method". This method places emphasis on group farming and efficient usage of farm land through renting. Iijima has also gone through significant reform by establishing farming centers, which is the primary method promoted by the Inan Agricultural cooperative. Iijima's reform has become more systematic than the "Miyada Method" because the farming center arranges both group farming and land renting in the same organization while "Miyada Method" has separate organizations for these two functions. The difference was caused by the fact that these two methods were developed under the different process. Another difference is that the Agricultural Cooperative took the significant role in promoting the establishment of farming centers
