The experiment involving 12 sows and 125 litters was conducted to elucidate the reproductive performance of sows at hot season (June, July, August, September) and to evaluate the effects of dietary supplement of a premix containing fat, amino acids and vitamins on the performance. Sows were fed either of 4 diets containing 0, 2, 4, or 8% of the premix during the late gestation and lactation. The premix consisted of animal fat (tallow) 625g, DL-methionine 50g, L-lysine 80g, L-tryptophane 5g, Vitamin a 500,000 IU, D3 50,000 IU, B6 0.25g, C 6g, pantothenic acid 10g in 1kg. From June to September, sows were fed average 2.9kg/day of feed during 1 week before parturition. The TDN intake was 125% of TDN allowance recommended by Japanese Feeding Standard. During lactation, the feed intake was an average of 4.2kg/day and the TDN intake was 73% of the allowance. Dietary supplement of 2% premix during lactation improved the feed intake significantly (P0.05) compared with 0, 4 and 8% supplements. Colostrum yields of sows increased by the supplement of premix (P0.05). Fat contents increased gradually during lactation. Sows fed the died with 2% premix brought about larger litter weight at birth (P0.05) and earlier return of estrus. However weaning weight and weight gain of litters were not different among the all treatments. The present results suggest that dietary supplement of an adequate amount of nutrients, especially of energy and certain essential amino acids, improves the reproductive performance of sows in hot season
