Studies on effective utilization of apple pomace and udon waste silage for fattening pigs: Relationship among apple pomace and udon waste mix rate, fermentative quality and aerobic deterioration of silage

The chemical factors in the material that may affect the fermentative quality of silage are: 1. Moisture content, 2. Water soluble carbohydrate (WSC) content, 3. pH, 4. NaCl concentration and so on. The apple pomace used in the present experiment has high moisture and WSC contents; pH is low and ranges from 3.6 to 3.8. The udon waste used for mixture has low pH, about 4.6, and the moisture content is also low. Furthermore, during the udon's making process, about 5% of NaCl is included in the DM. So, the different moisture contents, pH and NaCl concentrations in the mixtures occurred with change mix rates in the udon waste and apple pomace. Therefore, the influence occurred in the fermentative quality and aerobic deterioration after opening silos, were investigated. The udon waste and apple pomace mixing rates are showed in tables 1,2; the material was ensiled in 900 ml laboratory-silos or vinyl-bag silos twice, for three months. After opening the vinyl-bag silos; the silage was moved to a Styrofoam receptacle to examine the aerobic deterioration, and let in aerobic conditions under 30 degrees C inside a convection oven. During ten days, the temperature variations at different depth in the silage were investigated. Also, after open, on the third, seventh and tenth days, on layers corresponding to 0-3, 3-7 and 7-12 cm, pH changes and the variation on active yeast, fungus and aerobic bacteria count were investigated
