Jusuf, M. | Ahmad Dimyati (Sukarami Agricultural Research Inst. for Food Crops, P.O. Box 34, Padang, West Sumatra (Indonesia))
Forty-four selected clones were evaluated in Sungai Tarab, West Sumatra (700 m asl), from October 1993 to February 1994. A local cultivar was included as check. Yields ranged from 13.4 to 29.1 t/ha and dry matter content ranged from 19.1 to 38.4 percent. The local cultivar, Tamburin Merah, gave the highest yield of 29.1 t/ha. Selection was based on dry matter content, resistance to diseases, acceptability based on visual qualities such as uniformity of root shape and size, skin and flesh color, as well as oxidation rate of roots after cutting. Farmers and traders joined the researchers in selecting the clones. Out of 45 clones 18 were selected for further testing
